Neighborhood KidZ Club Trains In Malaysia
Neighborhood KidZ Club connected with a missionary friend and was invited to lead a two-day training seminar on how to start Bible Clubs at Metro Tabernacle Assembly of God in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This benefitted the church, local and foreign missionaries, and established a potential for Bible Club in a near-by refugee camp.
NKC in the Philippines
After the training in Malaysia, the NKC team traveled to The Philippines to see first-hand how the International Care Ministries (ICM) is working diligently to meet the needs of preschoolers in the villages in order to change the trajectory of their lives. Through a program called “Transform” ICM is able to make a difference in the lives of children beginning at 18 months of age. To complement the literacy instruction children receive, ICM is partnering with Neighborhood KidZ Club (NKC) to utilize preschool lessons in their Family Academy to help equip the Filipino parents to “train up their children in the way they should go”.
At the present time ICM is serving in 10 ministry bases, which includes 300-400 villages with an average of 100 people in each village. For a small expense there is a potential to reach approximately 30,000 people with the good news of the gospel.
The task of NKC is to modify lessons that have already been developed to fit the needs of the Filipino families. Neighborhood KidZ Club is prepared to do the work necessary so that the fruit of this trip will come to fruition in the very near future.

Pineview Terrace is a small community with apartments and single family homes. NKC Bible Club met in the common area near the neighborhood swimming pool. Currently, the children and youth from this community are invited to attend activities in the nearby Garden Villa community. Our prayer is that a church would adopt this community and build a stronger ministry to reach children, youth, and families.
Neighborhood KidZ Club partners with Boys and Girls Club at the STEM Academy in Brookshire. Since Boys and Girls Club was already established at the local elementary school, Neighborhood KidZ Club provided the curriculum, structure, and volunteers to create Bible Club for many of the children in this after-school program.
This location proves that you don’t have to have a public place to host a Bible Club. As part of an outreach by WoodsEdge Community Church, a church member opened her home as a safe place to present the Gospel to neighborhood children. Neighborhood KidZ Club has been able to offer Bible lessons, resources, and organizational structure for Bible Club, After-School Tutoring, and Summer Reading to this already established Bible Club.
Houston’s First Baptist Church already had an apartment ministry when two church leaders came to visit Western Pines for a tour and to hear details about the structure of Neighborhood KidZ Club. In a follow-up conversation, one leader commented, “We basically want to copy everything that you are doing.” The ministry is thriving, and serving in multiple communities.
The ripple effect for the beginning of this Neighborhood KidZ Club is quite an amazing God-story. During Fall 2015 Bible Club at Western Pines, Schalee Lodge was invited to speak with the children to help them better understand the memory verse, Hebrews 11:8, “By Faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called . . . and he set out, not knowing where he was going.” Schalee, blinded from a plane crash, was delighted to share how she totally trusted Sarge, her guide dog, just as Abraham had to trust God. The children learned so much that day, but that was only the beginning of God’s plan. Schalee is part of Grace Bible Church that had been prayerfully trying to discern how to reach children in their area with the Gospel. With direction and encouragement from Peggy Norwood, the Northwest Pines mobile home community was discovered and welcomed a Bible Club in their beautiful, spacious community center.
Family Life Assembly of God was also looking for a way to reach out to children beyond their walls. This mobile home community is on the same road as Garden Villa, The Summit, and Pineview Terrace, but was untapped. Today it is a thriving ministry!
This NKC began because God was tugging on a young mom’s heart in Katy, TX. Lauren found herself driving around Katy while praying and seeking God’s guidance on where she should begin to reach out to children with the Gospel. She discovered a sign for Neighborhood KidZ Club in Garden Villa, and soon her prayer was answered as she had the opportunity to teach Bible Club at Western Pines. Shortly after that semester, her husband was transferred to Apex, North Carolina. Lauren had many challenges to overcome, but her heart’s desire to reach children never wavered. She found a mobile home park near her home and began Bible Club on the grassy area in the midst of these mobile homes.
Nottingham Place is another example of a successful apartment ministry. This particular complex allows NKC to meet in their conference room. The children look forward to seeing their friends at Bible Club each week.
After three successful weeks at Sports Camp, leaders recognized a “spark” in the youth who attended. Many of the youth wanted to participate and lead in worship, and they wanted to learn more of God’s Word. With a desire to “keep the fire going”, the NKC staff decided that “Word Camp” was the answer. The plan developed that the group would read through the gospel of John, complete weekly Bible homework assignments, meet for dinner and homework discussion, and attend church on Wednesday nights.
